Li chiamano gli Oscar del cinema indipendente, anche se il loro vero nome è Independent Spirit Awards, e sono premi che ogni anno, da circa 30 a questa parte, vengono assegnati alle eccellenze del cinema indipendente americano allo scopo di sostenerlo e promuoverlo.
Ne parliamo qui perché nelle nomination per l’edizione del 2014, compare anche il nome di Paolo Sorrentino che è entrato nella lista dei cinque film selezionati per aggiudicarsi il premio come miglior film internazionale.
Considerando il successo che ha avuto “La grande bellezza” sia in Italia (con un incasso di circa 6 milioni di euro) e all’estero (la pellicola è stata distribuita anche negli States) non è escluso che questo premio possa finire nelle mani del regista napoletano. A breve, nei primi giorni di dicembre, l’Academy Awards renderà note le shortlist dei candidati all’Oscar in ogni categoria e finalmente potremo scoprire se Paolo Sorrentino sarà stato scelto per contendersi l’Oscar per il Miglior Film Straniero.
